Shaw Multicultural Channel joins with explorASIAN to present the first annual Filmmakers Showcase
during Asian Heritage Month in May. On three Sunday evenings - May 11, 18 and 25 -
Shaw Multicultural Channel will show themed collections of short and feature-length films by
local Canadian filmmakers. Each film portrays, examines or celebrates different aspects
of the Asian-Canadian experience.

MAY 11 - 9:00pm to 11:00pm
"Exploring Identity"
Opening with filmmaker Jeff Chiba Stearns' animated short "What Are You Anyway?",
this evening of films relates the struggles, challenges and surprises that mark the journey
to finding a place in the world.

MAY 18 - 9:00pm to 11:00pm
"The Ties That Bind"
Many yarns are drawn from the delicate threads that make up a family and this collection is
a chronicle of family relationships alternately filled with humour and pathos, comfort and fear.

MAY 25 - 9:00pm to 11:00pm
"Roots & Passages"
Discovering the unexpected and revealing past wrongs, this group of films transports the
audience to pivotal points in time using the lens of history to relate both factual and fictional
stories of tragedy and triumph.

From edgy explorations of self to fantastic flights of fancy, and from dramatic portrayals of
past injustice to wry commentaries on shifting societal norms, this feast of film has something
for every taste from the next generation of great Canadian filmmakers.
