CECILIA CHUEH Since immigrating to Vancouver in the early 1980's, Cecilia has been instrumental in introducing Taiwanese culture and music to Canadian society and promoting active cross-cultural exchange programs. She founded the Egret Ladies Choir in order to introduce traditional Taiwanese folk songs as well as brilliant works by contemporary Taiwanese composers. She further established the Egret Music Centre as a resource center for Taiwanese music in Vancouver for the purpose of encouraging the exchange and cooperation between Canadians and Taiwanese. As a devoted volunteer, Cecilia has served as a board member of both the Vancouver Chamber Choir and the Canadian Music Centre. She initiated what has now evolved to be known as the Taiwanese Cultural Festival. In 2002, she received the Living Heritage Award from the Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society. At present, Cecilia is the Artistic Director of the Egret Music Centre, and is a board member of Festival Vancouver and the Canadian Music Centre, BC region.
